If you're a regular gig goer in and around Cambridge then chances are you've already seen Tom Lumley & The Brave Liaison so I'm going to be preaching to the converted. But if you've not seen them live, heard of them or ever listened to them then these lads are a band you need to get excited about.
Huw Stephens has named them as ones to watch in 2020 and they’ve already supported Sam Fender, The Hunna, and have graced the stages of Isle Of Wight, Bestival, Tramlines and more. Definitely for fans of the previously mentioned artists and bands like Sherlocks, Kaizer Chiefs, Jordan Allen, Cavalcade and Callow Youth.
Shrink is released tomorrow 3rd April 2020 and is the first track from their brand new EP Sign of the Times due for release on 24th April.
After my first listen to the single I had to replay it over and over and over - it's one of those tracks that you have to.
If I'm honest it couldn't have come at a more pertinent time. We're all struggling with isolation at the moment and from the start it grips you with the lyrics, "I need to get some rest, it's all in my head".
I've asked Tom about the meaning of the song and he told me, "Shrink’ is about the schizophrenic back and forth of someone’s personal battle with self-doubt and anxiety. The lyrics denote the person not feeling in control of their own mind as their world seems to them alone as if it’s spiralling out of control. The paranoid thinking of someone whose thoughts are running rampant".
Whilst the subject matter is a dark one, the song is an absolute banger. My favourite part is just before the guitar solo, what a bridge. Pounding drums, killer riffs and crashing symbols and what about that guitar solo? It's enough to make you dribble....
