Single Preview: Bugeye - When The Lights Go Out

When The Lights Go Out, is the latest single to be released from Bugeye's debut album, set for release later this year.

Bugeye have pulled it out of the bag again with this track and if you're a fan of Blondie, Bowie, Pixies and love a bit of disco, then you're going to love this track, as much as I do.

From frontwoman's Angela Martin's screams of, Yes sir, I like to drink! this song starts with an explosive catchy hook and it only really relents in the build up to the chorus. But don't let that make you think that you're getting off lightly - because you're not! The chorus has a synthesizer riff that is ground shaking; and that guitar solo? I am in love with!

I can imagine this song coming on in a club, when I'm out and about in Manchedster, or even seeing Bugeye playing live. I'm going to have to be on that dancefloor/in the thick of it - letting go. This is what Bugeye's sound is all about for me. This single is very reminiscent of Blondie circa Eat to The Beat (my favourite Blondie album).

On the origins of ‘When The Lights Go Out’ singer Angela Martin reveals, “It’s Friday night, at last the working week’s over, and guess what, it was a bit of a shitty week… again. Nothing changed, everything’s the same, so we go out and we drink with our mates to escape it all. Legendary night of self-medication, the downward spiral, before the week starts all over again. This song is about depression and using alcohol as a pick me up to freedom, only to find you are trapped in a cycle.”

Everything this band produces is golden and the ladies have pulled it out of the bag again as far as this fan is concerned.
