Every once in a while, a band comes along that manages to encapsulate the angst of a generation and turn it into something spectacular.
The Sex Pistols November 6th 1975 played St. Martin's College of Art, London and a new era of music emerged. Fast forward just over two years to January 25th, 1978 and Joy Division made their live debut at Pips Disco in Manchester, initially being billed as Warsaw for the performance. Fast forward to October 23rd 1991, Rage Against The Machine played their first gig Quad (Cal State Northridge) in Northridge, California.
What do these aforementioned legends have to do with False Heads? Put simply their music influenced by others but having been forged by their own experiences of the world, spawned something that can only be defined as revolutionary.
In this post-punk, nu-metal, post grunge era of music this intrepid trio of musicians are forging a catalogue of music that is shaking the very foundation of guitar music and forging songs that shake you to your DNA. If you've seen them live you'll know exactly what I mean. They give it blood and sweat every single performance. You walk away drenched in sweat knowing you've witnessed a band that have the capacity to take over the world.
"Mime The End" is the second single to come from their long awaited second album Sick Moon produced by the legendary Frank Turner.
I've been a fan of the band since the release of their 2020 debut It's All There But You're Dreaming. If you've listened to their debut (and you really should if you've not done previously), you'd be forgiven for wondering if the band could follow such an incredible debut with something as great?
Based on the two singles released from Sick Moon so far - it appears that their new album is not only living up to the hype of their debut, it's talking to higher realm!
"Mime The End" intelligent production allows each instrument the room to be heard without ever loosing the others. Front man Luke Griffiths vocals on this track are softer than a lot of their former material, but don't allow that to lull you into a false sense of security. This ain't no ballad!
The band don't sit with convention and they encourage people to open their minds to the world around them, they don't play to a narrative politically or as people. Their music is exactly the same. Fuck convention - they're originals and it's so fucking refreshing!
Luke Griffiths (guitar and vocals) said of the track “”Mime The End” is about embracing the bleakest moments in your life and trying to turn them into positives. Accepting the worst and fighting for the best, accepting death and doing something with your blank canvas before the bell tolls.”
Summing this track up in one word - rapturous!
If you get the opportunity to see them live then take it - but if you need anymore convincing then this is what Iggy Pop said about them, " They are young and talented and going places... if they came to my town I'd show up for that, if they come to your town, you might wanna show up"
