Shine A Light Sunday - The New Coast

The New Coast

This weeks Shine A Light Sunday casts it's beam over Kent duo Nick Blyth and Chris Cheater aka The New Coast. Producing dynamic sounds, their records have a way of touching you right in the feels.

Quickly establishing themselves as one of the hottest bands to watch, they've already made an impression with their previous release 'Tear Us Apart' as BBC Introducing premiered it, and Abbie McCarthy made it her record of the week.

With a seven track EP scheduled for release towards the end of 2020, for now we're going to have to make do with their new single 'Cool Off'. It's an infectious track with a funky bass line, and a pulsating back beat - you can definitely picture dancing to this in a club.

“People are now so connected all the time but at the same time so content with

disconnection. 'Cool Off' is an ode to that feeling, not so much about being certain that something is over or wanting to give up; but more that it reflects the throwaway comments of a throwaway culture. I’m always pushing myself away, my way to feel more secure is to say, “it’s over and done with”, the band said in their press release for 'Cool Off'.

If you like the new track then I'd recommend you listen to their last track 'Tear Us Apart'. 'Caught' and 'Lost In Your Love' are stunning tracks from their back catalogue.

With an ability to produce tracks that have a cinematic and atmospheric feeling to them, whilst being completely accessible at the same time, The New Coast are onto something really special.

With over five million Spotify streams, it seems like I'm not the only one who is digging their sound. Watch out for their Ep later in 2020 - based on this release it's going to be rather exceptional.
